GedMend Privacy Policy

Last updated 31 July 2026

The short version: GedMend has no account, no sign-in, no upload, and no telemetry. Your genealogy data never leaves your machine, because there is no network code of ours in the program — it does not send your files, your names, or any record of what you did with them anywhere.

We do not collect, receive, store, or have any access to your personal information. We could not hand it over, lose it in a breach, or sell it, because we never have it in the first place.

1. Who this policy is from

GedMend is made by CaliberUtilities. This policy covers the GedMend desktop application for Windows and this website. If you have a question about it, write to [email protected].

2. What the app collects about you

Nothing. We operate no servers, no accounts, and no analytics for the app. There is no data for us to collect, and no mechanism in the program by which we could.

3. What stays on your own computer

GedMend works entirely on your machine. The following stay there, under your control, and are never transmitted to us:

The two GEDCOM files you load
Opened read-only and never modified. GedMend does not copy them anywhere.
The merged file and change report you export
Written only to the location you choose, when you choose to export.
A local session database
So you can close the app and pick up where you left off. It records the file names and locations you loaded, your decisions, your threshold and settings — and, so that a resumed session can show you what you were looking at, the names and dates of the people and families involved in the proposed matches. It does not contain a copy of your files. It lives in GedMend's own application-data folder on your PC and never leaves it.
Your settings
Such as display scale and how many past sessions to keep.

You can delete any of this at any time: remove sessions from the list on GedMend's welcome screen, or uninstall the app, which removes its application-data folder. Your original GEDCOM files and anything you exported are yours and are left untouched.

4. The one exception: the platform's app store

This is deliberate, and it is yours to trigger. GedMend is sold through the app store of the platform you run it on — on Windows, the Microsoft Store — and buying and licensing necessarily involve that store's operator, not us.

Specifically:

Microsoft's handling of that information is governed by the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Microsoft does not pass us your personal information, and we do not ask for it.

5. This website

This site is a set of plain pages hosted on Cloudflare. It sets no advertising or tracking cookies, runs no third-party advertising or profiling, and loads nothing from another company's servers — the fonts and images are served from this site itself, so visiting it does not quietly report your visit to anyone else.

As with any website, our hosting provider processes standard technical request information — such as your IP address, browser type, and the page requested — in order to serve pages and protect the site from abuse. From that, Cloudflare shows us aggregate traffic statistics: how many visits and page views the site received, roughly where in the world they came from, and which pages were popular. We use this only to understand whether the site is working and being found. It is counted in aggregate, it does not identify you, and we do not use it to build a profile of you or follow you to other sites. Cloudflare's own handling of that data is described in the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

None of this applies to the GedMend application itself, which does none of it.

6. If you email us

If you write to us for support, we will have your email address and whatever you choose to put in your message. We use it only to reply to you and to fix the problem you raised. We do not add you to a mailing list and do not pass it to anyone else. Ask us to delete the correspondence and we will.

Please do not send us your GEDCOM files or family data. We do not want a copy, and we do not need one to help you.

7. What we never do

8. Children

GedMend is a tool for adults managing their own genealogical research. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age.

9. Your rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, or delete personal information a company holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing for us to produce or erase — with the single exception of email you have sent us, which we will delete on request. The genealogical data in your files stays under your control on your own computer at all times; we are not a custodian of it.

10. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Because GedMend's design is what makes these statements true — not a promise about how we behave with your data — we do not expect the substance to change.
